It’s June, and that means the month-long open school enrollment application period across Kansas has officially begun! ποΈ During this exciting time, students and families have the opportunity to apply to any public school in the state for the upcoming fall semester. π
Olathe School District: 590 Open Spots! π
The Olathe School District is offering 590 open spots for new transfers, making it one of the districts with the most openings in Johnson County. This number is based on class size guidelines, estimated enrollment from current students, and the capacity of school buildings. π«Here’s the breakdown of available spots:
- Elementary Schools: 386 openings π‘
- Middle Schools: 119 openings π«
- High Schools: 85 openings π
If the number of applications exceeds the available spots at any grade level or school, a lottery system will be used to determine who gets the seat. ποΈ
Schools Not Allowing Transfers π«
Due to high capacity and expected natural growth, nine schools in the district will not be accepting transfers this year. These schools include:
High Schools:
- North
- Northwest
- West
Middle Schools:
- Oregon Trail
- Prairie Trail
Elementary Schools:
- Clearwater Creek
- Havencroft
- Manchester Park
- Washington
Important Notes for Transfer Students π
- Transportation: The district is not required to provide transportation for non-resident students unless specified in an Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). If there is space on the buses, a stop may be assigned for non-resident students. π
- IEP Information: The district will not know if a student has an IEP until after they are accepted. π
- Funding: The district will not receive funding for transfer students until a year after they are accepted. π°
